The most important security measure at an airport is to confirm the identity of travellers. This is done by checking a photo ID such as driving license. The passengers who are travelling internationally need to have passport. Just glancing at a photo ID is not enough, however. The hi-tech fashion in airport security today is biometrics. Biometrics includes checking fingerprints, retinal scans and facial patterns using complex computer systems to determine whether someone is what they say are - or if they match a list of people the government has determined may be potential terrorists.
